Delaware North’s Global Leadership Meeting came to a close last week, but not before a team-building 
experience provided a bit of requisite laughter.
Team Savagery – featuring Alexis Becker, Ian Kaminski, Nathan McMurray, Josh McMurray and Derek Zwickey – came out on top in the first-ever Delaware North Pentathlon, outlasting competitors Team Globalize, Flying Tigers, Beasts from the East, and Lucky North.
“We knew we had to just take it one event at a time out there…you know – not get ahead of ourselves,” Kaminski said with a laugh, doing his best impression of a professional athlete giving a cliché postgame quote. “There were a couple controversial calls by the officials, but at the end of the day, we were able to put that aside and came away victorious. It was a proud team-win.”
The event – held at RiverWorks Buffalo, a 60,000-square-foot facility that boasts two ice-hockey rinks (melted at the time), a roller derby track, four bars and ample dining space – featured blind taste-testing, one-eyed darts, tricycle racing, a bean-bag toss and a new take on beer pong.

Following the event, the tricycles were donated. Three of the five went to Camp
Good Days and Special Times of Western New York, and the other two were donated to The Summit Center, which works with people facing developmental, social and behavioral challenges.
“The tricycles served us well for the short time we needed them, and hopefully they will bring joy for the foreseeable future to members of both organizations,” said Culinary & Hospitality Council Director Steve Eden, who took a lead role in event planning for the Global Leadership Meeting.
