Two subsidiaries come together…and then square off in kickball tournament

Delaware North has two hardworking teams in the city of Atlanta: One tending to Atlanta Braves fans at Turner Field, and one serving travelers at the world’s busiest airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Even though each operates in a separate subsidiary of the company, the teams work a mere 10 miles apart and wanted to come together for a day of appreciation and fun.

Last month, managers and full-time hourly associates from the two locations gathered for a picnic at kickball_teamshot-9567448scenic Piedmont Park in downtown Atlanta. The event was organized by Shawn Mattox (district manager for Delaware North Sportservice at Turner Field) and Bob Filipp, Delaware North’s general manager at the airport.

In addition to the food and comradery, there was some good old-fashioned competition as the teams participated in a kickball tournament and games of cornhole (bean-bag toss). Each team came up with a team name and logo, with Sportservice choosing “Too Legit to Kick” and the travel hospitality team competing as “BAM! Ball Blockers.”

After a well-played game, the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport team ended up with the win. The Turner Field team will have a shot at redemption, however, as both teams agreed to make the picnic and tournament an annual tradition.
