Space station construction continues…
Space shuttle Endeavour’s seven person crew will launch and install two components of the Japanese Kibo laboratory: the Japanese Experiment Module Exposed Facility and the Experiment Logistics Module Exposed Section. They will provide a type of “front porch” platform outside the Japanese module, allowing experiments to be conducted in the harsh environment of space, and a robotic arm that will be used to position experiments outside the space station. The 16-day mission will include five spacewalks.
A historic moment will occur with the flight of space shuttle Endeavour, as it will be the first time two Canadian astronauts, Robert Thirsk and Julie Payette, will be in space at the same time. Payette will join fellow Canadian and ISS crewmember Thirsk when she arrives at the station.
