Atlantis with Payload Bay Doors Open

The new Space Shuttle AtlantisSM at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is the only place in the world where guests can see an actual space shuttle orbiter as if it was in space, its payload bay doors open and its robotic Canadarm extended as if it has just undocked from the International Space Station. Because the payload bay doors were not designed to be opened in Earth’s gravity, a complex process was developed to support and suspend the doors using steel cables.
