For the 14th year, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and Brevard Public Schools are coming together to present Brevard Space Week.

A blast of colors lit up the sky today at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida above the newHeroes & Legends featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame presented by Boeing.A spirited pyrotechnics display marked the opening of the new attraction, which was attended by more than 25 veteran and current NASA astronauts, including revered Gemini and Apollo space program astronauts Buzz Aldrin, James Lovell and Thomas Stafford.

As part of an ongoing effort to support those affected by Hurricane Matthew, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex has raised $5,000 for the three Sharing Centers in Brevard County and all United Way agencies.

On Thursday Sept. 8 at 7:05 p.m. the OSIRIS-REx (Origins-Spectral Interpretation-Resource Identification-Security-Regolith Explorer) will launch from Kennedy Space Center atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket. OSIRIS-REx will be the first space explorer mission to travel to an asteroid, collect samples and bring them back to Earth for study.

Therrin Protze, chief operating officer of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, today announced The Boeing Company as the title sponsor of the upcoming attraction Heroes & Legends, featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame®. The news marks the first time in more than 50 years that the visitor complex has entered into an agreement with a corporate sponsor.
